Wedding Spray tans... do's and don'ts

Do a trial and don't skip.

Follow our tried and true tips and recommendations for a perfect, flawless tan that photographs beautifully.

We have all seen wedding pictures or heard horror stories of awful sunless tans. Our goal is to prepare you to have the best experience while delivering the most natural tan. We want you to feel the most beautiful on your special day.

We always recommend a trial. It allows us to tweak the perfect color for you. Make any changes prior to the big day. Save your trials for your bachelorette party or bridal shower. Might as well look your absolute best on those days as well. We will help you choose the perfect shade and color for you. One that is going to suit your skin type and photograph well. The trial will tell us if you want to go darker next time or even change the tone a bit by creating a custom mix just for you. Spray tans last 7-10 days so you'll want your trials spaced out with enough time.

Spray tans are ideally done 2 days before your event. We like 2 showers for our brides to ensure they have washed off all cosmetic bronzers. They should be done 24-48 hours after waxing or pedicure appointments. Your appointment will take about 15-20 minutes. You will want to wear dark loose fitting clothing to put on afterwards. Plan to not get wet or sweat afterwards for at least 8 hours for our regular solutions or 1-4 hours for our premium rapid. We also recommend no tight bras or bralettes immediately after.

Prepping for your spray tan to ensure no color rubs off on your dress is pretty easy. We want you to lightly exfoliate your skin the week before your spray tan during each shower you take. We usually think a cloth washcloth works best. Use towards the end of your shower when your skin has softened from the water. Scrub or wipe down your entire body. Make sure to pay attention to your underarm areas and around your cleavage area. We tend to miss these spots. You may also use a sugar scrub as well. If it is heavily oil based don't use same day as your spray tan appointment. The day before would be ideal.

It has always been super important to me for our sunless tans to look natural. In fact it took me two years of being in business for me to find a solution that I loved that looked natural. Some may ask, "I'd like to UV tan before my wedding as well. Do I still need or should you get a spray tan if you are already tan." My answer is "Absolutely." What I love about spray tans is the airbrush finish they give. They help to hide skin imperfections so well. When choosing the prefect color we consider the "filter" that some photographers like to use that can turn you a little brassy.

Want your whole bridal party to partake in the fun. We love bridal spray tan parties. From your bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids to mothers and mother in laws to be. We unfortunately no longer offer mobile parties but we do have 3 locations to serve you. Angels Camp, Valley Springs and or Sonora. Get your girls together and we will spray them all with our gorgeous colors. Book 5 or more in your party and the brides tan is on us!

We truly feel we have perfected our methods and deliver you the most natural, gorgeous tans. If you'd like to book your spray tan you may do so here. If you have any questions or concerns please send us an email. sunsualtanning@yahoo.com

Hope these are helpful. ~Melissa
